The semifinals of the ICC World T20 2014 are just around the corner but we still have only one semifinalist, India, with us and the other three are yet to be decided. The points table shows a lot of possibilities so far and may get cleared in a couple of days.

In Group 1 only Netherlands are ruled out of the tournament and all the remaining 4 sides can make it to the semifinal. At present it’s Sri Lanka, New Zealand and South Africa with a tie on 4 points and are placed in the same order on the table due to their respective NRR. South Africa have only one game left and will have to win it with a big margin so that their NRR crosses that of Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

Sri Lanka and New Zealand have to play each other and the winner will make it through to the semis. England will join these sides with a tie on points after winning an easy game against Netherlands but their hopes will majorly depend on the game they have to play against South Africa. If they win it, they’ll be more likely to qualify.

In Group 2, India have already qualified for the semifinals. Most probable second semifinalist from this group will be either of West Indies and Pakistan. Both the sides have a game left for them and the result of the game will predominantly give us the second semifinalist and the team winning it will make it through.

Australia and Bangladesh have minimal chances to qualify for the semifinal and currently they are placed 4th and 5th in the group respectively. There a lot of ifs and buts for them to make their way through to the semis. But who knows if luck favors them and some upsets are around the corner.
